This is a great little video by the folks over at Consumerist.com It pretty much sums up a lot of the “sales funnels” that some marketers want to drag you into. I’m not a fan of MLM, aka Multi-Level Marketing plans and this funnel pretty much sums up what I’ve always wanted to say about them but never really quite figured out how to say it. My favorite line? The one about the pyramid scheme just being an upside down [...]

That’s right, if you’re an “Internet Marketing guru” you suck. Let me tell you why: Most of you offer nothing of value. If you do offer something of value, it’s seriously overpriced. All you seem interested in, is in fleecing your customers for every penny they’ve got, and then some. You suck for that. You support people like James Arthur Ray, who stands accused of killing 3 people, and is at least morally guilty of a fourth death. You support [...]
TechCrunch reports that Forrester research put out their 5 year forecast of sales and is predicting that there will be over $250 Billion in online sales by 2014. There are some interesting numbers in the report. Here’s an excerpt: While $155 billion worth of consumer goods were bought online last year, a far larger portion of offline sales were influenced by online research. Forrester estimates that $917 billion worth of retail sales last year were Web-influenced. It also estimates that [...]

Its a piece of legislation that was supposed to protect the rights of the copyright holders in the new digital millenium. Like any legislation, it can be used for good or for evil. Fortunately, the folks over at Brainz.com have broken down how a DMCA works to show us how to file a DMCA claim to protect our copyrights. They also [...]

Speaking of Google, LifeHacker has a great article outlining 10 obscure tricks that you can do when searching on Google. There are other really cool tricks, but these are the less geeky of them. I love being able to get the local time anywhere in the world, and I also really like being able to track any flight in the air. Top 10 Obscure Google Search Tricks
Social Mouths has a great article about things that you, as a non-expert, can do to improve your SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is essentially the art of bringing people to your site based on what they type into Google. By Google, I mean the search engines. The advise is very good, and very basic, so it is definitely something that you can do on your own, without having to hire me or someone like me. Enjoy [...]
I read this awhile back and meant to link to it but kept forgetting. It’s a post by Denise Wakeman, and she goes over 13 mistakes that we bloggers make. I am guilty of making a lot of the mistakes on the list. Here’s a taste of the post, of course you’ll ahve to go to her blog to get the rest of the story. Content: Not posting frequently enough. Content is not focused or optimized for the search engines. [...]
These are items that came into my Twitter feed that I found interesting. On Jay Baer’s blog, he talks about whether or not social media has gotten too big for its britches. Red Monk has a nice post about the commodification of journalism. Red Monk’s post neatly compliments a post on Marketing Pilgrim about how half of all bloggers consider themselves to be journalists. I know I wasn’t asked anything about that, were you? Last, but not least, Social Media [...]
I’m still not settled in with what I want to do with this site, and how I want to arrange the posts etc. But, in the interest of saying something actually useful to someone, I’ve decided to post these slides. They are from Andy Beal’s presentation at Pubcon Dallas 2010. In the slides he goes over how to track your social media profile, goes over the why and then tells us how. Enjoy! 5 Free Social Media Monitoring Tools You [...]
