Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity. Here’s a portion of the transcript: We know three things about intelligence. One, it’s diverse. We think about the world in all the ways that we experience it. We think visually, we think in sound, we think kinesthetically. We think in abstract terms, we think in movement. Secondly, intelligence is dynamic. If you look at the interactions of a [...]

I think the bottom line is that people will follow inspired leaders for themselves before they follow someone for the money. Money isn’t enough to motivate people to greatness, a desire to be great is what inspires people to be great. If money is your primary motivator, you won’t amount to much.

These are the slides from Wayne Sutton’s presentation at SXSWi 2010. I love the bacon slide. In any case, the thing that’s missing from the slides, is the part about how to do it. Alas, methinks that’s a topic for another day. Becoming Real-Time Video Blogger in 2010 View more presentations from Wayne Sutton. I think that a couple of slides about “how to do it” rather than just about the “becoming” part would’ve done wonders. I missed the presentation [...]

I’m back at a position that I hate to be at. I’m at a crossroads as far as what to do with this site. The original intent for this blog was to be the general depository of all my content from all my other sites. As time went on, this blog became more of a place where I ranted about this, that or the other. That’s not what I wanted for this site.

OK, so I missed yesterday’s self imposed deadline to post. I’m on a “post every day” diet for the month of November, so I may have to post twice later on this week to make up for the missed post, but that’s not important right now. Here’s the problem. I want to get more speaking gigs, but I don’t know where to start. I have had a modicum of success with just reaching out to people on Twitter and my [...]

Listen to what this guy has to say. This is a video of a presentation he gave at Web 2.0 in New York in 2008. It outlines the crux of the book, if you can’t buy the book, watch this video and then buy the book I read his book “Crush It!” last week and have taken it to heart. Be warned, there is some foul language in the video but the message, in my opinion, is priceless and timeless. [...]

What the heck is “The Book of 5 Rings?” It’s a military strategy book, written in 1643 by a samurai named Miyamoto Musashi. It is said that Miyamoto-san never had a home, never bathed, never had any children, or women. On a side note, I can’t imagine why he never married, but I digress Miyamoto Mushashi was totally and completely focused on his station in life. In other words, he completely dedicated himself to his passion. Here are the rules [...]

I’ve been using social media tools for awhile now, starting off with Friendster and MySpace and now with Twitter, Facebook and so on.  During my time online, I’ve mostly talked about my exploits and adventures. From the fun that I’ve had running through the woods looking for beer, to cruising the caribbean, the foibles of working for a large company or relationship matters, most of what I’ve talked about has been nonsensical stuff. Up until this point, I hadn’t really [...]

I’ve been folowing the story of James A Ray, aka Death Ray on TV and other media. In case you don’t know who this guy is, he’s the “Spiritual Guru” responsible for 4 deaths in 90 days during the summer of 2009. As of this writing, there’s rumbling of criminal charges, but nothing has been filed so far. But, that’s not what I want to talk about. What I want to talk about is lighting and how lighting can affect [...]

That’s right, I’m going to Pittsburgh. I still haven’t received confirmation that I’ll be speaking, but my sponsored travel arrangements are complete. I’m ecstatic to be going since this is my first out of state trip that is purely focused on my online and speaking business. In my excitement, I did something that I probably should not have done. I offered to give 2 presentations at the event.  When I looked at the schedule, I saw 2 areas that I [...]
