How to reach your goal

If there’s one thing that I know, it’s that reaching goals is not easy. It’s hard to both pick a worthwhile goal, and then it’s also hard to reach the goal, specially when the goal seems insurmountable.

Here’s a secret to accomplishing your goal: break the goal down into smaller chunks. Break it down into the smaller component steps. If your goal is to run 100 miles, you know you need to run 1 mile, 100 times.

The point is, to just keep running. Put one foot in front of the other and keep going until you’ve run the distance.

Ultimately, that’s the goal.

You want to cover the distance, and in the process you find out what you’re made of. Anyone can set an easy goal, the hard goals are the ones that really test your character and make you grow as a person.

Like the saying goes: Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Test your limits and see if you can push them out just a bit more. Then, next time around, test your limits again, and push them out just a little bit more.

I’ve been doing just that in little runs around my neighborhood in the mornings and in runs around the trails in San Marcos.

I’ve found that the the little bit that I push my limit today, becomes the norm for tomorrow. I know then that the next day, need to push my limit out a little bit more again.

Just keep moving and keep running, you’ll reach your goal as long as you’re moving towards it. Little by little you’ll get there. You don’t eat an elephant in one big gulp, first you have to put it on the BBQ, then cut it up into pieces, then eat it one bite at a time.
