A couple of weeks ago, I came across this book. Actually, I can’t even remember how I came across this book or where I saw it.
Regardless, I wanted to read this book, pretty much from the first moment I saw it. The guy that wrote it, is the same guy that came up with the idea of creating poetry by blacking out newspaper articles.
The book came about from a blog post, that just blew up in popularity. But, the book is more than just a long blog post.
There are some really good ideas inside the book, and even though I’m not done with it yet, I can tell you that this is one of my favorite books.
The first lines in the book are:
Every artist gets asked the question,“Where do you get your ideas?”
The honest artists answers,
“I steal them.”
Austin Kleon delves into the difference between plagiarizing and copying in such a way that even a middle schooler can understand it. All I can say, is buy the book. It’s worth the time and effort.
