I got some anonymous hate mail in my inbox from the contact form on this site. My first reaction, was to be a complete douche nozzle back to the sender.
Not so much because of what they said, but because of how they said it.
What they said, was not original nor insightful. It also has no bearing whatsoever on anything that I say and do.
I’m of the opinion, that if you’re going to send someone hate mail, you should have the testicular fortitude to sign your name to it. Back up what you say with your name and who you are. Otherwise, what you say has no value whatsoever and you show a complete lack of conviction in what you’re saying.
Whenever I leave a comment somewhere, I always use my name. If I email someone, I email using my name. If it’s worth saying, it’s worth signing my name to it, otherwise I wouldn’t say it. Which is part of the reason I have the hard time adopting an “internet persona,” but I digress.
I knew that my first reaction was not the appropriate one, so I decided to wait until today before posting my reply.
This morning, I saw this message:
“Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.”
|—||Proverbs 26:4 ESV|
Which made me completely change my tack.
I will not answer the fool that emailed me according to his folly. I shall instead keep this proverb in mind and delete the anon hate mail since it’s essentially nothing more than a junk message.
The point of this post, is essentially to tell you that it’s OK to not fight fire with fire. Somethings, you just have to let go.
