Rick Warren Is Right, We Need To End Dependency On The Government

Let’s start with making churches pay income tax like the rest of us. Why not? Don’t churches depend on services paid for with our tax money? Services like police, fire fighting, paved roads, water and wastewater treatment etc?

Why not make churches pay their fair share of that and restore them their dignity?

Warren said:

When you subsidize people, you create the dependency. You — you rob them of dignity.

Indeed, while we’re at it, let’s also restore the dignity of Exxon Mobil, Apple, Boeing, General Electric, GM, Goldman Sachs, AIG, Bank of America and all these other companies that get huge tax breaks by exploiting various loop holes in the tax code to get huge government tax refund checks. What we do to these companies by allowing them these huge refund checks is really shameful.

We should really stop robbing them of their dignity.

I suggest we start with the people that can afford it most, and then work our way down to the people that can least afford this new found “dignity” that Rick Warren is talking about. Don’t you think?

We need to end corporate welfare and corporate dependency on government hand outs. Let’s also end the tax free status of churches and other religious institutions while we’re at it too. Apparently, it’s the only way we can restore dignity to these institutions.
